The Coveted Cake...UPDATED

Gettin' Started
The best recipe...ever.
Smells sooooo good...can't wait!
Neither could Abby, she decided it needed a taste.
This is the "crumb coat" a thin layer of icing, you chill it and then have a smooth, clean surface for the pretty icing.

Dena has, on occasion, mentioned her favorite cake that I make. For our girl's weekend this weekend at Virginia's beach house, I decided to make it...my carrot cake. Here are some of the steps I took in that process today...it seems monumental to me because it has been at least 1.5 years since I have made it. The last time was for Dena's birthday or (maybe for her for Christmas?), the one before last because this time she was on a diet.

Finished product still to come, waiting on Kane to get home from store with more supplies!

Yum! It was good...I still have some in the fridge!

10 things that make me smile...

I was tagged by Jennisa for a little meme...here goes.

1. Tucking (and smooching) my little ones in before I get in bed.
2. Wallowing in my super soft, 600 thread count sheets. I thank God for them often in my morning prayers!
3. Abby has this joke where, when she's feeling sassy, I ask her what she wants for dinner and she says "do do." It is so frustrating and a little embarrassing but it is so funny at the same time. Sometimes, she switches it up a little and says "do do pie!"
4. My new camera. I was stuck in the stone ages it seems with my 5 year old camera that died recently. Hmmmm, on second thought, do I believe in the stone ages...are the stone ages only if you believe the earth is billions of years old? I'll have to look into that. Anyways, it was old.
5. Coke, Even though I have cut waaaaaaay back, I love that first sip that is so cold and burns your tongue just a little bit.
6. When Jesus does something really cool, you know like when you need some money for something and the exact amount falls into your lap? Or when you lose something special and He shows you exactly where it is. OR when you are down in the dumps and you get a great card or phone call or surcie from someone. Those make me smile.
7. TV, I love a good story....and I LOVE TV. I am so excited about Fall TV, I have already enjoyed Heroes and Chuck. I am ecstatic about Smallville on Thursday.
8. Worship, I love music...really good worship music. My church just happens to rock, the music is cd quality and it is so easy to worship the One and Only when no one is singing off key! ;)
9. His Word; the Bible is timeless, appropriate for all days and all situations. I love coming across just the right verse, at just the right time. That makes me smile.
10. When my hubby complements me. I have felt so ugly and chunky since we have been married. I love when he tells me I look nice or have lost some weight. I still remember when, in the 11th grade, I had lost a bunch of weight, and he told me that he could tell. We were not dating at that time, but it is a really significant memory. I remember what I was wearing and what class we were in and everything. That's huge for me...I'm not so great at the memory thing.

I tag Sugar. You're it!

Poopy Picasso

Hmmmm. Notice anything missing?
Oh, there it is!
Such the artist, worn out after creating her masterpiece, she crashes.

Covered in her medium of choice, she arises....disoriented and ready for a soak in the tub.

At that Weddin'

Well we're back, we had the best time. It was so relaxing and I must say that I did most everything on my list from Thursday! We didn't make it to a movie...I guess that can wait until date night. The wedding was beautiful and we had a great time with all of our high school friends that we don't see very much. In fact, the weekend felt much like high school right down to me being the designated driver on the way home. It was really a lot of fun. We don't take part in the party lifestyle anymore, so to hang out with everyone was so much fun. I had to go out and get a new camera to share the fun with you because mine died on Abby's birthday last week.

Thursday Thirteen

Thirteen things I plan to do this weekend ( we're going to a wedding out of town.)

1. Sleep in, twice. Can I get a hallelujah?!
2. Smock, yes I am a dork...but I love it. Dena laughed when I said I will be smocking poolside on the cruise...I was serious.
3. Have uninterrupted conversations with Kane that are NOT about work.
4. Wear Dena's hot dress...yea it fits!!!
5. Shopping, the hotel is across from the mall.
6. Pedicure, hopefully at the mall?
7. Take off my shirt at the end of the day; without snot, throw up or food on it.
8. See a movie, I'm hoping for 'Good Luck Chuck.'
9. Eat at Uno's in Lexington on the way there...and back. Hopefully Sugar can meet us there!
10. Have a real breakfast, we usually have a protein bar everyday...except yesterday. I forgot breakfast completely.
11. Shag, hopefully I can drag my chubby hubby on the dance floor!
12. Eat cake, what's a wedding without cake!
13. See my girls' faces when I finally come home.

The BIG Buggie Day!!!

Abby's big buggie day was awesome, in short. We slept til 9, which was great since I stayed up late sewing! Everything was ready and on time, we just had a blast. Even Abby, who can be kind of moody when lots of people are at her house, was in a great mood! She couldn't wait to don all of her ladybug gear and jump with her friends. She didn't cry or hide when we sang and blew her candles out perfectly. The only complaint I have is that I ordered twice as much pizza as I actually needed! I could have saved some money...but in the long run it's just a drop in the bucket. We did have 13 pizzas though! Kane's sister, once again, made a beautiful AND tasty cake. Sometimes it's hard to do both, but she is so awesome! We all had such a good time that we didn't actually get around to opening the presents until like 1:30, after everyone had left. Except for Dena and Sugar and Kane's family. That went well too, I think 3 is the perfect birthday year. 1st and 2nd birthdays could be small because they are so uncooperative! At least my diva daughter Abby was!
After the party Sugar and Dena, and crew, stuck around for chatting and playing. Sugar stayed in town to wait for Moms' Night Out. It worked out well and they all kept me company, since Kane left to go fishing at 2pm...(sigh) my hubby is so funny. Cole stayed over while we went out that night and they had a great time. Cole and Abby had had so much fun that they went to bed at 8 without a peep. We all had a great time and I am so tired still. Kane's birthday is in less than a month, thank goodness his will be low key...at least right now it is!

Happy, Happy Birthday Abby!

I can't believe it's finally here! I have been so excited all week, as if it were my own birthday! We started out the morning with a few starter presents, a Cinderella doll that flips between dirty and princess Cinderella, as well as some musical instruments. Abby loved both and wanted to take them to school, especially the instruments. She said she wanted to play some music for her friends. When we got out of the car at school, I had to distract her, with the ant hill I was standing next to, to get her to leave them. This was the first time I took her to school myself, she did great! She didn't look back, she headed straight for the toys! At school they had a mini-birthday for Abby with party hats and cupcakes. I know they had a great time and Miss.Terri took some pictures for me too. I am really enjoying this birthday so far and I am so glad there are several more celebrations and lots more cake and presents to come!
