Happy birthday Lily Kate!!! We had such a great time at the park, and check out that cake! Nana did it again.
It was a perfect opportunity to wear our new peasant dresses, we picked them out at market when I went with Dena in January.
Our friends Cole and Jonah came for a visit, Abby is in love with them. It was a real treat, we loved hangin' with their 'rents too!
They partied late in the night...we are still trying to recover!

He sure is funny

After years of bookwork, just recently I have decided to be responsible with it and have actually enjoyed it lately. I have prayed for years that God would relieve me of that duty and fought with Kane about hiring a book keeper. He was afraid that we couldn't trust someone or that it would be expensive. Also our office is in the playroom of our house! Although we are growing, we are still small, but it has been almost a full time job juggling with the girl's schedules lately. Last Summer, I specifically struggled with it because I had a nanny. While Miss Sarah was the best stand in for me that I could ever dream of, I was so sad and jealous that they were laughing and playing while I was at my desk. During one quiet time with God, I distinctly heard in my Spirit that I would not always be doing that. He told me that I should get things organized and ready.

Last week, Kane was organizing a special job. One of our new employees volunteered his wife for laying some pine straw. He said she was formerly a book keeper and wasn't working. Best of all, she was a believer and only wanted to work part time. How perfect is that? I waited, I was obedient (finally) and God brought the book keeper to us. I am always in awe of His plan and I am so blessed by this answer to prayer. Ms. Shirley started yesterday, and she is so sweet and eager to help and learn. I think I have just enough time to train her before school is out next month...then I can spend the summer with my girls! Water park, here we come! God is so good, all the time.

Film Review Friday

Last night we went to see The Forbidden Kingdom, with Jackie Chan and Jet Li. I really couldn't decide if I liked it or was slightly embarrassed for myself for seeing it! It is a cross between Crouching Tiger and Shanghai Noon. It has the theatrical and magical Kung Fu fighting with humor and cheese of a Jackie Chan movie. I was really enjoying it until the last five minutes...then I was completely embarrassed! It has a super cheesy ending. I am glad I went to see it, but don't plan on seeing it again. If it has a sequel, I will rent it.

Field Trip

Friday afternoon Abby and I went to see the Disney Princess on Ice show. The show was wonderful as were the many, many, many princess souvenirs that we brought home. The trip there, however, was heinous. We left late, got lost numerous times, missed our dinner plans at my favorite restaurant with fun friends completely and Abby ended up crying that she wanted to go home. Sweet. On the bright side, we were on the 4th row and got there very early to explore the princess loot and eat "dinner," cotton candy (see Abby's hat) and a snow cone(which we both went home wearing.) What did I learn? I will never go out of town by myself again.

Chef Mommy

Why is cooking harder than I remember? When we first got married, I didn't work and I was a crafty and enthusiastic homemaker. All I ever wanted to do was be married, which I did at the age of 22. I cooked all kids of meals, had this great huge kitchen and it was so much fun. After I had Abby, we downsized into a tiny house. The kitchen was the size of my closet now. Bottles and baby dishes took up most of the counter space and the rest was eaten my our really old and really big microwave. So we just ate out...for every meal. Now, almost 4 years later, it's time to eat at home more. The money is better spent somewhere else and Reese just hasn't been cooperative. So, for the last few weeks I have been planning my weeks worth of meals and making the huge grocery list. Yesterday, I spent the whole nap time doing this, almost 2 hours. How frustrating is that? I guess I have been spoiled...I know I have.

On the bright side, we are spending more time at home and with the girls. Our clothes are fitting better and we have more money to spend on our business stuff and bills. I am finally enjoying my great kitchen, I have been organizing and cleaning it up. I might even decorate it soon. I really just didn't remember cooking being this hard. Yesterday, I made dinner and it was terrible. That's kind of funny, I think. It is something I used to make all the time and it was great. It hit the trash...no leftovers for us. I guess I have to start from scratch and get the hang of it again. Practice makes perfect, and I bet it's easier to get a recipe right when toddlers aren't screaming and hanging on your legs! Tonight on the menu, Chicken Florentine Panini. I found it in one of my annual Southern Living cookbooks and it won some lady a million bucks from Pillsbury a few years ago. I let you know how it went!

Film Review Friday

It was date night last night once again. This time we went to see a real man movie. It was called "Street Kings" and stars Keanu Reeves, Forest Whittaker, Hugh Laurie and Chris Evans. It is a bad cop verses the gangsters type movie. When we were leaving, Kane said "to say that was hard core is an understatement." It was rated R, to begin with, for language and violence...both of which there were plenty. It did not have nudity, which was kind of refreshing despite the rain of bullets in every scene. I did enjoy it, although I do love an action film. This not one you have to see, just the best one playing that we had not already seen. It's not a great datenight choice if you don't get to go out as often as we do.

Two-fer Tuesday

Reese: 1.) Reese has been soooo talkative lately. She chats all the time and mixes words with the few signs that she knows. Her latest phrase is "ant dat," for want that. How convenient...it's still cute. But for how long?
2.) She also is very into animal books and trying to make the sounds. She can do frog, dog, duck and bear for sure. She calls birds "b," and points them out in the sky. She can also say moon and point it out too. I don't feel like that's stellar for her age because she doesn't get the book time Abby did as an only child. I do feel like she knows so many words because she is not an only. It's a trade-off. That's probably the reason she will only eat junk food too, Abby never had candy before age 2. Reese was probably less than 1. Although, they still don't get candy everyday unless you count fruit snacks as candy. They only really get it at Granny's house...even though she knows I say no candy! That granny! ;)
Abby: 1.) Abby has been really whiny lately. I think she observes the way Reese communicates and thinks that that is the way to get what she wants. I hope it passes soon.
2.) She also has been really interested in helping me cook. It's kind of a new concept around here. I really haven't cooked much since Abby was born. In an effort to save money and because Reese is not great in a restaurant I have been cooking most nights. She really likes to help and
then she is more likely to try the new food.
Mommy:
1.) I have been so busy lately, I feel like super mom! Work has been so busy, some days I spend my entire day at my desk. I think that I am officially a working mom. I have struggled to hold on to this "in my spare time" mentality. I suppose it was just pride and a desire to give my children my full attention. On the flip side, I believe God has finally transformed my heart and answered my prayer to accept it. It is the oddest thing, I have really enjoyed my work lately. I find a lot of satisfaction in it. Maybe I just never wanted to.
2.) I have been cooking up a storm! Old recipes and new, I have been busy. I will admit that we went out tonight for free kids night at Moe's. Kane's car is in the shop so I haven't been to the store this week. It actually is nice not to eat the same old stuff and to be so full at night. I haven't lost any weight but I am hopeful.

Film Review Friday

I know I'm a little late, but it's a double feature this week. I hope to save you $40...that should be worth the wait!

For date night we went to see Leatherheads, with Renee Zellweger and George Clooney. It is is a story set in the 1920's about the beginning of professional football, with a tad of romantic comedy thrown in. Emphasis on the tad. I must say that Renee was cute and sassy as always but the movie was just flat out boring. You can skip it.

Last night, Dena and I escaped to a mini-girls night out. After dinner (yum, I should have brought home the doggie bag) we went to the movies out of sheer freedom to do so. And, also it had been far to long since Dena had stepped inside a theatre. So we went to see Smart People, with Sarah Jessica Parker and Dennis Quaid. It is a "romantic dramedy," about a grouchy professor who is a widower and a former student who has a wildy, unrealistic crush on him. I did laugh a few times, but it was a little short on the comedy. Pretty much, you can skip it. I wouldn't even bother renting it actually. By that time the theaters will be filled with Summer time hits.

I haven't had much luck at the movies lately...sad. I can't wait for Summer.

Wordless Wednesday

Hehehe. This has been on my desk for some time now. I couldn't decide if I had the nerve to post it! This is my Junior prom picture, 1995. You can see Kane and I in the center, but we didn't go together. Our dates are the ones at our side...four months later we were dating each other.

Sleepover Fun

This weekend, Abby and Annie had their first ever sleepover! Ms. Dena had to go somewhere and so we were glad to have Annie play with us. Kane was a little nervous, I must add, because Annie is not really a bedtime kinda gal. She usually just crashes where she lands and we have a bedtime routine and the girls sleep in their beds and in their own rooms...99% of the time. We had pizza and Leigh Ann was here to visit for the festival. We watched Dora and red a few books, then said our prayers...then the fun began! We could hear them laughing and playing, having the greatest time! I went in their a few times, but honestly I think Abby was the instigator! I had to pull some toys off the bed a few times and around 10ish Kane found Annie in the living room. Apparently, Abby had sent her to get some food from her toy kitchen upstairs. Isn't that funny? She knew she wasn't supposed to get out the bed, so she sent Annie! They finally fell asleep around 11, with Annie falling out the bed clinching Molly the stuffed golden retriever. They were precious. Abby did wake up around 4:30 and finish out the night with us in our bed, like the 3rd time ever in her whole life she slept with us. I was afraid she would wake Annie if I put her back in bed. So, I think it was successful, not bad for a first try and Annie was the perfect guest!

Festival time!!!

Today we went to the festival here in town. It is thousands of people, crafts, games and lots of food. It is such a fun time of the year. It was rainy but we stayed and played anyway...that is until about 4 o'clock when they got out the bullhorns and police intercoms and announce that the park was closing due to severe weather warnings! It was actually kind of scary. I have been going for about 20 years and that has never happened. There were tornado and hail warnings.
Until that point, we did have a great time though. Yummy food, lots of friends...did I mention that Dena knows EVERYONE?! I basically could just stand still while tons of people (and polititians, funny) came to chat with her. I got to meet lots of people. We rode the fun train tram, for the second day in a row. Did I forget to mention that we went yesterday too? It is definately a three day affair. I brought home some super cute monkey bows, I'm sure you will see them soon.

Film Review Friday

We went to see "21," with Keven Spacey and Kate Bosworth. It is "Mod squad" meets "Ocean's 11." I was surprised that it was pg-13, first of all. The language was pretty clean but there was typical Vegas-ness throughout the film. (Ie, strippers, drinking and gambling.) Not something I would want my 13 year old watching, but I guess it's not much different than tv these days either. It was entertaining but I wouldn't want to see it again. If there's something better playing...go see it instead.

Horton Hears No Who

Friday afternoon I decided to take Abby to the movies. I LOVE the movies, and I love to share this with her. I organized everything to go...got Kane and Reese food, changed carseats, changed Abby's clothes in the car after swimming at a friend's. We get there, buy my ticket, $9. Get in line to get our snackie dinner, $15. Grab a booster and head for the theater. Abby has to go potty, of coarse. We lug the booster and all of our food to the potty. She goes and we wash and head for the theater again...she has to potty again. So, we head for the potty spilling popcorn all the while. We head for the theater again and get the door open, even though my arms are filled with popcorn, nachos, 2 drinks and skittles...AND the booster she HAD to have. She starts crying. She's "afraid of the movies." Seriously?! We've been several times before. I tried to change her mind, but there's no taking a crying kid into the theater! So I got my ticket refunded and we dragged all our snacks home. I was crushed and devastated. I really took it personally and almost cried (pms fo sho)...I am so in trouble. The first time I hear an "I hate you" (when she's much, much older I hope) I may need to be medicated.
