Teacher gifts

Here are some fun teacher's gifts that I whipped up for Reese's teachers. Such a great and easy gift. I got the towels from Wal-Mart for $1.50 each and then appliqued them with this.

I had planned to make some for me but never got around to it. Maybe next year...there's always next year!

Christmas Programs

Both girls had a Christmas program this year. Abby's was the Christmas Story and she was an angel in the chorus. It was very cute, she was so excited to be in a "real play" but was a little disappointed not to be chosen as Mary.

Reese's three year old class sang Christmas songs with their music teacher. It was very cute, but Reese did more complaining that her antlers wouldn't stay on than she sang! That's my Reeser!

Silver Ball

Last night was the Silver Ball for local cotillion club. It is such a festive time of the year to do this. It is always the Saturday before Christmas, I have been maybe five times before and this year was the most fun by far. We stayed in a hotel next to the party site and got ready and hung out with our friends before the ball started. Then we got to SLEEP IN this morning!!! And we went to brunch on the way home. It was such a treat.

Christmas Parade

Today was the town Christmas parade and we braved the chilly weather to watch the festivities. We've been home and hour and I still have my coat on, I haven't thawed out yet!

We got the perfect location to see everything!

We drove the golf cart and parked it on the side of the street. It was perfectly cozy and no one could inch in front of us because the cart took up the whole spot.

We had some great friends join us in our spot and that doubled the fun! We will definitely do this again!

Christmas Fashion Show

My smocking guild had their annual Christmas party and Children's Fashion Show this week. The girls had such a great time hamming it up and eating the goodies afterward! Several of their friends' mommies are in the guild so buddies were there to play with too! Click the link to see more professional shots like the first one. What a treat it was to have him there!post signature

Christmas Sewing

I finally finished a new Christmas outfit! I made Abby's weeks ago for the Christmas sewing contest (it got 3rd!) but had not had time to do Reese's. Today was the first day that they got to wear it and they were so excited! I used Portobella Pixie's "Claire" and I really liked the pattern. It had very good directions and the sizing was perfect. It runs very true to size...although it's an over sized style. Look for another one this week, I have got to get it done. It's a shame to spend all that time making it and not get to wear them at every opportunity!

Figured someone needed to see the Christmas tutus that I made today for Ballet, since it was cancelled at the last minute due to a storm. They cried...nice.

Here are some fun, late night appliqueing projects! Love this teapot! Isn't is great, what you can do with a 4$ Wal-Mart shirt! This goes with some ruffle pants that I made a few weeks ago.

Here's my favorite turkey again, this time for boys...AGAIN with the Wal-mart tee shirts! Isn't sewing grand?

TInkerbell!!!

Isn't this going to be perfect for Disney next week!!! I really wish I had made Reese one too, but I have been trying so hard not to make two of everything lately. I just love how this turned out. It's hard to tell from a picture, but I used a few strands of metallic silver dmc with the silver/white dmc on the wings to give it just a little sparkle. The metallic stuff is hard to work with, I wouldn't recommend it with darker fabrics. It doesn't lay as flat so my stitch coverage isn't great. Luckily, this lilac cotton pique is very forgiving. Have you ever smocked on pique? ( if you are a smocker, of course!) It is a dream to smock, very smooth.

For the dress I used Children's Corner "Carol," which only goes to a size four...how irritating! So I tried to size it up just a bit. It looks ok, but the collar is a little small. It doesn't cover the whole back. Only a serious sewer would notice, so it doesn't bother me at all. I used the sleeves for the "Lettie" pattern. I wanted them to be a little longer since it is cool. They are a 3/4 length sleeve and call for a ruffle but I lengthened the sleeves and did elastic with a mini ric rac trim instead. I also added the pockets to the front of the dress because I wanted to incorporate the lime ric rac into more of the outfit. And, after all, kids do love a pocket! The plate I got from Tiny Nay, not a place I have ordered from before. It has tons of character type plates, I ordered several princess ones. I was nervous to see how it would stitch out, but I think it did great. Can't wait to try another one.
