Christmas 2013

 Santa's Loot

Reese was so excited about this tie she got for Kane at the Gingerbread house at school, it plays music!

They wore these robes from Granny all day, even over their nice Christmas clothes later!
We surprised the girls with doll bunk beds that Kane made. I made the bedding. I will try to get a better picture tomorrow.

They went shopping for me at ULTA, they know I love makeup.  They did great! Each chose false eyelashes, 2 nail polishes and a HOT Pink lipstick! I wore it all day with my red sweater. ;)
Itouches were the hit, they danced around singing all day.

2nd Christmas at Mimi's with Cousin Ansley!

Barbie video cams, what?!  That's fun, I bet there will be much movie making tomorrow!
Furby....they loved them.  I am so glad they got the ipod because the furby app is awesome.  I was happy for them until I realized there is no OFF button!!!! Yikes.

Holiday Fun!

It has been more than a month since I posted! Just terrible, hopefully I will make up for it the rest of the month.  I got a new camera this week! Happy birthday/Christmas to me!
Christmas parade.  Yes, Reese is wearing a sleeveless dress! Welcome to Christmas in the South.  I believe until this week, I had no heat on for almost THREE weeks!  Those are their last years outfits,  they all still fit.
I did make them each one new outfit for the Smocking Guild Christmas Fashion show, but haven't gotten a good picture of them yet.  They are the two with polka dot bows in the back.  They had a great time! It was a lot of fun.
Here is our tree this year, it is maybe 12 or 13 feet.  We always love a big tree, only partly because we have vaulted ceilings in the den.  Last year, unfortunately, Kane threw all our lights away on the tree.  (Not the first time he has done that either)  So wee had to buy all new lights this year.  We (I) like to heavily light the tree by wrapping the strand around individual branches from the inside to the out.  This made 3 trips to the store for the almost 2000 lights necessary.  I really hope we don't have to buy them next year.

I made this a few weeks ago after seeing it on pinterest, it was for sale on etsy but I felt certain that I could do it with a trip to Hobby Lobby.  It turned out to be very easy a little messy.  I bought a wooden letter and spray painted the edges.  Next, a used spray adhesive on the letter and stuck it to a moss table runner.  I used my rotary cutter to cut away the excess moss.  I staple gunned the ribbon on the back and glued on the cheap snowflakes from Walmart.  After I hung it up I noticed that  it kept shedding every time I opened the door.  I then hung it over the bushes and gave it a coating of the spray adhesive on top and it really helped.  I am going to make another non-Christmas one with the leftover moss I think.  This project cost me less than 20$.

We have so many skirts around here and I am trying to get some shirts to match them made.  I always think I will pay for a fun skirt but not a top to go with it because I can do it so cheaply! But who has the time!

This is from Applique Frenzy, I admit that this was NOT fun to stitch.  It didn't come with directions and the foot kept getting stuck in the ribbon loops and it ruined the alignment   I had to machine satin stitch all around his nose to fill in where it missed.  Thanks God this was for me and not someone else.  I almost threw the whole thing in the trash!  IF (big IF) I ever do this design again I will use masking tape to secure the loops down during stitching....or maybe baste them down with water soluble thread.  I wish I could have made it bigger.  The 6x10 wouldn't fit in my 150x240 hoop so I had to do the 5x7.  I used minky for the white and you need dry cover up or a water soluble cover on top for that.  I also used my Sewline fabric glue stick to position all of the ribbons.  I love that thing!
This is a fun shirt my friend Kelly saw out and she had the turkey she had designed already.  She removed the stitched feathers and Voila! All new.  It needs a bow on the head but I didn't have the right sized ribbon for that.  Hopefully I can add it but with only a week til Thanksgiving you never know if it will get done.  That skirt she has with it is reversible and when I picked her up from school yesterday she had flipped it! To HOT PINK! That girl is something else.

Catching up

I haven't sewn much since Halloween, I needed a break I guess.  I have been teaching some fun classes though which I always love.  I think the classes are more fun for me than the students!  Here are a few pictures from my phone that will tide you over until I make something fun!

It was spirit day a few weeks ago and they dressed up every day to school.  Super Hero Day.
 Wacky Tacky Day
 Super Prep Day
Here are our pumpkins that Kane carved.  Each girl picked out their pumpkin, as well as the design on it.  Abby's is the vampire and Reese's is the mad one on the right. They had lot of fun.
My cameras are both horrible but here is the costume parade for Halloween.  The kid's Super Senior buddies dress to match.  They looked great!  I watched the end of the parade too and Reese ended up talking her Senior into carrying her! She is something else.
At the Halloween party, Abby with her buddy William.  They always have so much fun together!
Kane and I on the golf cart.  I really like this one, I wish the darn banner wasn't in the way! It was a really fun night.

Happy Halloween!

We had too much fun tonight!  The girls don't want to go to school tomorrow! HA! When Abby figured out that that wasn't an option she said she wanted to wear her pajamas....and be grumpy. ;)

Had tons of fun decorating the golf cart this year with my banners from the house and extra loot from the party we went to!

Off to Trunk or Treat!

Oh my! The girls were so excited about costumes this year.  Normally we just pull something out of the dress up trunk.  This year I gave them a catalog to pick something out, only they took too long and what they wanted was sold out!  I was able to find cat woman for Reese, after looking 7 places!  All I could find was a size small at Target.com....I was seriously surprised that we were able to zip it!  She loves it though and was super sassy in it.
Abby, on the other hand wanted to be movie star in a dress exactly like the catalog....so I had to make it!  I have never made a costume before, this was a first.  I really like how it turned out although the ties are itchy because they don't have the same silky lining as the rest of the dress.  I used a mermaid pattern because it was the only child size halter ensemble that I could find and just made it long.  I found the accessories at Party City, thank goodness!  I also made a white fur wrap but she didn't have it on yet.  On actual Halloween we will do make up and false eye lashes! She was adamant about that, she sees me wear them all the time. :)

Treat Bags!

Last month in a Viking Club sewing class we made the Holiday tote bag out of vinyl pet screen.  It was lots of fun.  I decided to scale down the dimensions and make trick or treat bags for the girls and my niece.  I had a friend come over and we made 2 for her children too!

It was a fun project and I hope the girls will enjoy them for years to come.  They sell the pet screen at Walmart and Home Depot.  You can sew it using a size 90 needle.  Sew up a rectangle on 3 sides and gusset the bottom! Easy as pie.  I added the embellishments before I sewed up the side and I used the top strip of fabric to encase the handles and and finish off the top.  The bag on the left is 13"x15" rectangles.  I can't give you the directions because they came with my class but if you are an intermediate seamstress I am sure you could figure it out!  In person they are kind of see through.  I think they would make a great beach toy bag because the sand could fall through or a good shopping bag because it would be easy to clean and easy to find stuff in the bottom!
